As a child, the magic of books transported me into another world. I was born and raised in New York City, amongst a lively family of cops, politicians and other dynamic personalities. Escaping to my bedroom for time to read was a delicious pleasure. This joy of books inspired me to create poetry and short stories to entertain family and friends, not to mention an embarrassing attempt as a pre-teen at writing a novel!
At age twenty, I moved to London, eventually making England my adopted home. I embarked on a career in estate agency and latterly as a sign language communicator, while also raising my lovely, now adult daughter. Throughout the years, my joy of reading remained, but writing had become rather buried under life's responsibilities.
Until a few years ago. I felt that pull to create my own stories again. Two family members were experiencing health problems. I needed to focus on my work with deaf students, and in the evenings, support my family members. It required a ton of mental strength. I found that taking time late at night to escape into other worlds by creating stories gave me renewed energy for the following day.
Out of this, my first two novels were born. The second won first place in The Writer's & Artists Turn the Page award in 2021, attracting three agent offers and a publisher.
My short stories have been published in several anthologies. They've received awards and placements in a number of international competitions - to date 20! These include: Cranked Anvil, Fish Anthology, The Yeovil Literary Prize, Dahlia Leicester Writes, Scottish Arts Trust, Farnham Flash, The Alpine Fellowship, HISSAC, and most recently The London Independent Film Festival Story Prize. (For the full list, see here)
I've also written feature articles for American in Britain magazine about life as a New Yorker who has fallen in love with living in the U.K.
I am currently working on my third novel and having a lot of fun getting into the research for my story. Do have a look at my 'fun and crazy book research' page.
I live in beautiful Warwickshire, England with my British husband. The surname 'Storey' was his perfect wedding gift to me. We live with our Bichon dog who barks at trees swaying in the wind, and a pretentious feline who crashes my zoom calls. Apparently she also sends out snarky newsletters when I'm away from my desk. I look forward to sharing more with you via Tiffany's newsletters!
